Spanish property for sale in Villanueva del Trabuco, Andalucia

According to legend, there once was an inn at a crossroad near the village. The inn was so frequently raided and robbed by passing bandits that the inn-keeper decided to get a weapon to defend his possessions. Eventually, he choose a blunderbuss, or trabuco in Spanish, a fire-arm with a bell-shaped barrel of destructive nature at close range. Ever since that day, the bandits left the inn alone and the inn-keeper and his weapon remained inseparable. When the people in neighbouring Archidona saw him approaching, they said that the fellow with the blunderbuss, el tío del trabuco, was coming. Legend has it that this is the origin of the village name.

The village dates back to the 17th century and was part of Archidona up until 1848. Sites to see are the parish church of Nuestra Señora de los Dolores from the 18th century, the hermitage of La Virgen del Puente, the hermitage of San Antonio, built in memory of Antoñico Rosa, the grandfather of one of the former mayors, the hermitage of La Virgen del Pilar and the hermitage of San Isidro, in whose honour there's a pilgrimage on the 15th of may to the 101 Caños.
